
Introduction to our department
This department was approved to be established as a geography education department in 1977, and new students entered the department once in 1978. In 1984, it was expanded to the Department of Social Education (Geographical Education, General Social Education, and History Education), and in 1998, it was changed from the Department of Social Education to the Department of Social Education. Since 2009, geography education majors have been separated into geography education departments, and only general social education majors and history education majors have remained in the social education departments, but as of March 1, 2011, majors separated into general social education and history education departments.
What do we learn in our department?
The curriculum of the Department of History Education consists of a total of four areas: Oriental History, Korean History, Western History, and History Education.
Students learns the course of human history development and cultural heritage throughout Korean, Oriental, and Western history, and develops his qualifications as a history teacher by adding various theories and teaching methods related to education.
In addition, this department will conduct regular academic exploration once a year to explore cultural assets and historical places that were learned only in books or classrooms, thereby completing the qualifications of a secondary school history teacher.
Moreover, students are able to study more deeply in their major by choosing Intensified course completion of major or able to obtain two level 2 teacher’s certificates of secondary school by choosing multiple majors that suit their aptitude in other fields. (Multiple majors in other departments within the College of Education are available)
By studying various areas, students who have completed history education, curriculum (including Intensified course completion of major) and double majors will be able to study a wide range of subjects, as well as be able to take advantage of various exams including examination for the teacher certification.
The Department of History Education aims to foster a history teacher who can understand the history of Korea, the East, the West and mankind as a whole, and effectively communicate and educate them. For that, authoritative professors of the Department of History Education are lecturing on overall history, including Korean history, Oriental history, and Western history, as well as history introduction, history education, methodology of teaching and research of historical textbooks etc. It is desirable for students who want to become future teachers to apply, and it is also desirable for students who have the curiosity and exploration spirit to understand human life as a whole.
